Entry Level Hedge Fund Jobs

By Richard Wilson

This article provides tips, advice, and insights on how to obtain entry level hedge fund jobs through online resources and innovative approaches.

How to find Entry Level Hedge Fund Jobs:
  • Specialized Knowledge: You should craft a plan which allows you gain as much knowledge as possible about the HF industry. Read books, magazines, articles, email newsletters, and blogs until you are fluent in the language of the industry.
  • Complete a HF certification program: By completing an industry designation program you can gain access to internship opportunities, career coaching, resume feedback, video modules, and gain very specific HF industry knowledge that is hard to find elsewhere.
  • Which position? Most entry-level HF professionals work as analysts, research assistants, or capital raising assistants. Decide which position is the best fit for your interests and skills and start specializing yourself as much as possible before you meet with actual potential employers.
  • Resume: Make sure that your resume is just 1 page in length regardless of how much experience or education you may have. This makes sure that it actually gets read and allows you to focus the potential employers attention on the things that really matter and set you apart from the competition.
  • Networking Events: Many times the best way to get ahold of HF managers is by attending their networking events held in dozens of cities around the world. By doing so you avoid playing the voicemail and non-response email game and instantly get to put a face with your name.
If you follow this advice in securing your first job in the job it should help speed up this process. Remember not to try and over-sell your virtual trading portfolio or past bets on individual stocks, that alone is not going to impress anyone and could have been the result of luck. Focus instead on gaining knowledge within the industry.
